The renowned publisher has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the anticipated over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Management Shift Comes After Poor Reception
Brinkman takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the departure of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' disappointing early showing last fall.
On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer notified employees about this organizational change through an official communication, which highlighted that playtesting had shown the necessity for a distinct vision.
The president stated that the developers is now reimagining the project with a refreshed vision, aiming to address community desires.
Trend of Key Hires
The news follows a similar step taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to contribute to the beloved franchise development group.
Below is the full message from the president's communication:
Hello Everyone—
I understand you all just wrapped up your town hall - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Previously I sent you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and creative creators we have had the chance to work with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to continue.”
With your dedication and versatility, especially over the last year, you repeatedly show that.
The player input from last autumn’s the game testing phase was enlightening. It affirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the requirement for a sharper brand.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the criticism to heart and revamped Project ETHOS with a renewed goal - one that’s ready to deliver on its potential to our fans.
The trust in Project ETHOS grows every day. To boost the incredible progress you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce the new hire as the incoming Studio Head of the team. After a period of discussions, he starts with us on the specified date.
His guidance and background in the competitive gaming space is extensive, having dedicated the last 15 years developing and leading some of the most recognizable series in gaming, such as the acclaimed shooter, and lately, Apex Legends.
Let’s together in receiving Ben next week. We are all looking forward to persist observing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the months to come.
The President
Background of the New Head
Brinkman currently holds the position of executive producer and head of production at the renowned studio for their flagship title. He earlier worked at major gaming companies in various production roles on the Call of Duty series, and, prior to that, had periods at 2K and Electronic Arts.
Title Information and Vision
The upcoming game was revealed in last year in conjunction with a public demo. Initially, 31st Union described the title as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an innovative step forward on the category."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the description explains. "Challenge the competition with new abilities, stakes, and challenges that evolve every match. Do you withdraw carefully with your valuable rewards? Alternatively aim high, put it on the line, and pray your squad can earn top ranking? The decision is in your hands."
The game does not have an announced debut schedule or supported systems, but enthusiasts can anticipate more updates as production progresses.
