Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the urban setting.

Note: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to begin their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

With 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear out of place, but the events of the third episode show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the team understands precisely where to go next after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, attacking the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

The traitor then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd close behind.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each character has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, wants retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their status as important members in House Halovar could help the team access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The cleric defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This means them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in quest for the antagonist.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Explorers and Schemers parties.

Fans can anticipate discovering which adventurers will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
